What is yoga?

Yoga is an ancient system of Indian philosophy, thought to be more than 5,000 years old. The word yoga means “to unite”. Through physical postures (asana), pranayama (breathing “exercises”), medit-ation, and philosophy, the practice of yoga draws together the body, mind and spirit, bringing us fully into the present moment. 

Yoga can help us to develop greater awareness and acceptance of ourselves, and to build both physical and mental strength, flexibility, and balance. Away from the distractions of work, TV, alcohol, food, friends, we have an opportunity to become quiet, to listen, and to find out who we really are. 

There is so much to gain physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually, from a consistent, conscious yoga practice. Some of the benefits have been confirmed by scientific studies, but even better, come along to class and experience for yourself the amazing benefits!  

Why yoga?

Oh so many reasons to practice, here are just a few:

- Great for health – stay physically fit, and mentally and emotionally balanced

- More suppleness, strength and flexibility in your body

- Lowers blood pressure and improves circulation

- Better posture means less aches and pains in your body

- Helps to relieve stress anxiety, panic attacks, depression, pain and stomach problems

- Lungs work more efficiently, filling you with energy and vitality

- Feel more energised, happy, calm and peaceful



I hope that my classes will lead you to a place of calm and quiet that you can carry into the rest of your life. I hope that you will discover the joy of being present in your body, simply moving, enjoying the feeling of stretching and flowing with your breath.

I will create space for you to listen to your body, to ask yourself, “what do I really need right now?” and to practice  accordingly. I will encourage you to give yourself permission to stop doing, and instead just BE! Allow yourself to really be in your body, be in this moment… how does that feel? 

There is no competition in yoga – each time you come to the mat is a different day, a different time, a different season. Instead of starting from where you left off in your last practice, start from where you are in the present moment. I invite you to join me, to discover for yourself just how good yoga feels!
